Dr J T Eskridge, one of the most prominent physicians of Colorado, died this afternoon at St Luke's Hospital of Bright's disease. His wife, who is an invalid, was not notified that he had been seriously ill until he was dead and the news was a serious blow to her. The date for the funeral has not been fixed, but services will be held at Dr Eskridge's late residence, No 2037 Emerson street, and at the Trinity M E Church. The funeral will not be held until the arrival of relatives from Philadelphia. Dr Eskridge was an authority on nervous diseases and insanity. He was born in Sussex County, Delaware and was a graduate of the Classical Institute of Laurel, Delaware. He studied medicine under Dr Fowler, of that place, and afterwards was graduated from the Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia. He practiced his profession in that city for some time, and came to Colorado in 1884, locating in Colorado Springs, where he lived until 1888. In 1889, after he had moved to Denver, he was appointed neurologist of the St Luke's and county hospitals. The next year he began a series of lectures in Colorado colleges. In 1891 Governor McIntyre appointed him one of the commissioners of the state insane asylum and for a number of years he served as president of the board. Dr Eskridge wrote a number of books on mental and nervous diseases and these books are considered authorities by the medical profession. His wife was formerly Miss Jane Gay. He is deeply mourned by his many friends in this city, both professional and social.
