Avis was born on Sept. 11, 1929 to William and Florence Aasen. She graduated from Viroqua High School and worked for the FBI in Washington DC for 32 years before retiring in 1984
Avis was an accomplished quilter and enjoyed many hours creating beautiful quilts with the St Mary’s Quilters. She was a member of the Viroqua Garden club and volunteered at the Local history museum.
Survivors include her brothers DeWayne Aasen ( Artis) of Mindoro, Bill Aasen (Janet) of Viroqua and Ken Aasen (Martha) of Evansville and sisters Mary Olson (Clifford) of Machesney Park, IL, Patti Thomas (Barry) of Kenosha and Eileen Herberg (Roger) of Sparta and numerous nieces and nephews.
Avis was preceded in death by her father, William and mother, Florence, brother, Donald and sisters Lorraine Peterson and Janice Erickson.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Vernon Ct. Hospice or St. Mary’s Church.
Avis’s family would like to express their gratitude to the Oncology Dept at Gunderson Lutheran and to the hospice caregivers for their most gracious help in this time of need.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, October 29, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Viroqua. Friends may call at the church on Monday after 9:30 a.m.
