Robert Fulton Achor, 83, died, after a brief bout with cancer, on January 24, 2013 at Mt. Joy Hospice Center in Mt. Joy, PA, surrounded by his loving family. He had moved to Manheim, PA in early December, and lived in Clifton and Warrenton, VA for the past 55 years. Mr. Achor was born in Evanston, IL on March 29, 1929, a son of the late Leonard B. and Mildred Achor. He was predeceased by a brother, Leonard B. Achor, Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Louise F. Achor; four children: Jennifer A. Wittke (Rev. James), Timothy F. Achor, Peter D. Achor (Julie), and William B. Achor (Catherine); and thirteen grandchildren: Katherine Wittke Mathis, Benjamin Wittke, Sarah Wittke, Victoria Wittke, Margaret Achor, Rebekah Achor, Leah Achor, Gabrielle Achor, Hannah Achor, Nathanael Achor, Noah Achor, Caleb Achor, and Susannah Achor. Mr. Achor attended College of Commerce, University of IL, and graduated from Guilford College, NC. He worked for several banks including the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, before becoming Review Examiner, Division of Examinations, Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, Washington, DC. He retired in 1986. A gifted "renaissance man", Mr. Achor had wide-ranging interests including history, jazz and classical music, art, and photography, often of covered bridges and old houses. He shared his beautiful tenor voice all his life, most recently at Gainesville Presbyterian Church. His life-long fascination with steam trains was reflected in the exquisite miniature wooden models he made, complete with track and villages, in his basement. He enjoyed the art of carving, and his friends and family were the fortunate recipients of his nativity sets and a large variety of handmade wooden, painted Christmas ornaments. In addition, he drew handsome pen-and-ink renditions of old houses. Flower gardening, particularly producing magnificent roses, was another favorite hobby. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 1 from 9 to 10:30 a. m. at Gainesville Presbyterian Church, 16127 Lee Hwy., Gainesville, VA 20155; burial will follow at 12:00 noon at the Clifton Cemetery, Yates Ford Road, Clifton, VA, with a funeral at 2 p. m. at Gainesville Presbyterian Church, followed by a reception. Officiators will be Rev. James F. Wittke and Rev. Jack Lash. A Memorial Service will be on Saturday, February 2 at 11:00 a. m., at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2151 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601. Officiators will be Rev. Dr. Michael Rogers and Rev. James F. Wittke. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Joy Hospice Center, 4075 Old Harrisburg Pike, Mt. Joy, PA 17552.
