Frederick Enoch Comstock, 71, a widely known resident of this city, passed away this morning at 9 o'clock in a local hospital. Mr. Comstock had been confined to the institution only since yesterday but had been in failing health for a number of years.
He was a native of Albany where he was born on July 14, 1859, a son of the late Theodore F. Comstock and Mary Elizabeth Armstrong, who was a daughter of Colonel E. B. Armstrong and Rhoda Ann Tibbits. Mr. Comstock was a grandson of Calvert Comstock, who at one time was editor of the Albany Argus which several years ago merged with the Albany Knickerbock Press.
When but two days old his mother died, his grandparents adopting him and bringing him up in this city. In Canastota on January 26, 1882, he married Helen Harvis. Two children, Theodore and Florence, were born of this union. Mrs. Comstock and the children have passed away.
Mr. Comstock later married Miss Charlotte M. Hartman of Oriskany. Three sons were born of this marriage.
At one time Mr. Comstock was successfully engaged in the real estate business here and was a member of the State Board of Real Estate Brokers. He also at one time conducted the Central Hotel on W. Dominick street. He retired from active business many years ago. He spent the past summer with Walter L. Seegar at his camp at South Bay.
Surviving Mr. Comstock are two half sisters, Mrs. Theodore V. Visscher of New York and Mrs. M. R. Bingham of this city.
