Obituary: The Cullman Democrat, January 23, 1930

Henry D. Mixon, a well known citizen of this city, dropped dead on Saturday afternoon about seven o'clock at his home in West Cullman. His death was due to heart failure. He was sitting by the stove and suddenly keeled over in his chair, dead.

Mr. Mixon was buried in the Protestant cemetery here on Monday. The deceased was 69 years of age. He was born near Carrolton, Ga., in the early years of the Civil War and came to Alabama when 16 years of age. He settled near Huntsville and later removed to Attalla in which locality he resided until moving to Cullman in 1902 and here he spent the remainder of his life. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church, his membership being at Berlin. Mr. Mixon was interested in civic affairs of the city and politics in the county and the state. He was well known to most of the citizens of the county and the views were always respected on public questions. He was a merchant in death. In Mr. Mixons's death the county has lost one of its best citizens and the sympathy of hundreds of his friends is being extended to the bereaved family.

The deceased is survived by his wife, one son, W. R. Mixon, of Hartselle and one daughter, Mrs. Wm. Estes, of Cullman, and by four brothers, and two sisters and four grandchildren
