Mary Pearl Knight, 85, of Gonzales passed away Wednesday February 22, 2006. She was born Sept. 17, 1920 in Hutto, Texas to Cleo Brockway Lynn and Lady Ethel Hutto Lynn. She married William Richard Knight, Sr., on June 27, 1940 in Austin, Texas.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she had been General Chair of the First United Methodist Churchis Tried and True cookbook as well as Treasurer of the WSCS for many years during the 1950's. She was a Charter member of the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. in Gonzales, she had recieved her 50 year pin as a member of Golden Cresent, she was a member of the Spade and Trowel Club serving as its president in 1956, she was a memberof the Delta Delta Delta Sorority while attending the University of Texas, she received her BS degree in Education from Southwest Texas Teachers College and she received a Library Science Certificate from the University of Texas. She retired from Gonzales High School after years of serving as Librarian. She was a member of the Gonzales Retired Teachers Ass., and the Texas State Teachers Assn. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Lynn Tischler (Fred) of Plano, daughter-in-law, Jean Knight Baty and Donald Anthony Baty of Dallas, tree grandchildren Dr. Preston Rinard Knight (Renee`), Richard Nelson Knight(Pattye), Meredith Lynn Beal(Brian) all of Dallas, three great-grandchildren, Caroline Elizabeth Knight, William Anthony Knight, Duke Richard Knight, and a niece Geraldine Bischoff of Round Rock.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son, Dr. William Richard Knight, Jr., and her sister, Lady Cleo Bischoff.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Jay Brown officiating. Interment followed at the Gonzales Masonic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dr. Preston Knight, Richard Knight, Brian Beal, Ed Johnson, Bryan S. Denman, and John L. Tinsley.
