Thomas W. Golightly, of Allison Park, died peacefully Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, from complications following open heart surgery. He was surrounded by his family. Born Nov. 19, 1930, in Kokomo, Ind., the son of the late Joseph and Ada Golightly, Tom was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Bowie Golightly; and his four brothers, James, Joseph, Robert and George (Pat). His father and all five brothers spent their entire careers with PPG Industries. Tom is survived by his wife, the Rev. Carolyn J. Jones; his children, Lynn Holden (Clarence), of Allison Park, and Thomas Golightly II (Kate), of Point Breeze. He was a devoted grandfather to Christopher (Meghan) and Jessica Holden and Thomas III and Neal Golightly; and was uncle to 12 nieces and nephews. Tom graduated in 1952 from Purdue University with a degree in mechanical engineering, and later earned an MBA at the University of Michigan. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Active in Scouting as a parent, Tom was proud that both his son and two of his grandsons were Eagle Scouts. Camping and other outdoor activities were favorite pastimes, and in more recent years he enjoyed travel with family and friends, and looked forward to spending time each summer at the Chautauqua Institution and in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. A member of the Glenshaw Presbyterian Church for nearly 40 years, Tom served that congregation as an elder, deacon, trustee and youth leader. A service of witness to the Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, at the church. The family will be available to greet friends prior to the service and at a luncheon reception following. Burial will be private in Allegheny County Memorial Park, McCandless. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Glenshaw Presbyterian Church, 300 Glenn Ave., Glenshaw, PA 15116. Arrangements by BOCK FUNERAL HOME LTD., Glenshaw.
