Eugene Lammot, former Wilmington mayor, 87. Eugene Lammot the only person to be state senator and mayor at the same time in Delaware, died Monday in Wilmington Hospital of heart failure. He was 87.

Mr. Lammot of 302 W. 28th St., was a Delaware state senator from 1954 to 1960 and was mayor of Wilmington from 1956 to 1960. He was lieutenant governor of Delaware from 1961 to 1965. His trademark was a white carnation in his lapel.

Born in Germantown, Pa, he moved to Midway at age 8, and to Wilmington at age 18. He was employed by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in Wilmington for three years and worked for 10 years at the Washington National Life Insurance Co., also in Wilmington. He established the Eugene Lammot Insurance Agency in 1921 and operated the agency until his retirement in 1981.

He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, Elks, Eagales and Red Cross. He was one of the organizers and founders of the Loyal Order of Moose. He was a member of the Brandywine Businessmen's Association and the Brandywine Democratic Club of Wilmington. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Street and Sewer Department of Wilmington. He was a member of the First and Central Presbyterian Church.

He and his twin brother, Elliston who died on Jan 1., were members of the Wilmington Twin and Triplet Club, which was affiliated with the National Twin Club Association.

He received his early education in a one-room schoolhouse in Midway and was a graduate of Yeates Preparatory School in Montgomery County, Pa.

He is survived by a niece, Eugenia Bonner.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in McCrery Memorial Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, where friends may call after 7 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at Gracelawn Memorial Park, DuPont Highway.
