William G. "Bill" Larson, 87, of Manitowoc, died Friday, August 22, 2014, at home.

Bill was born March 28, 1927, in Marinette, son of the late Alvina (Bromund) Larson and Nels Godfrey Larson. He attended public schools in Marinette and graduated from Marinette High School in 1945. Bill served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a technical sergeant in the Philippine Islands.

Following military service, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and in 1951 received a Bachelor of Science degree in organic chemistry. On February 14, 1953, Bill married Ann M. Zimmerman in Evansville, IN. They then made their home in Manitowoc, where they both lived the rest of their lives. Ann preceded Bill in death on July 27, 1997. He was a lifetime member of the American Chemical Society, and worked more than 40 years as a chemist until retirement.

From the 1950s to the late 1990s, Bill was a member of St. James Episcopal Church. In his younger years, he also had been a member of the Manitowoc Jaycees.

Survivors include: one son, Michael G. (Wendy) Larson, Manitowoc; one daughter, Diane E. "Dede" (Darrel) Brauer, Sussex, WI; four grandchildren: Rachael M. (Tom) Woznick, Wauwatosa, WI; Heather L. (Jason) Noworatzky, Fond du Lac, WI; Brooke E. (Tyler) Brefczynski, Pickett, WI; Emily E. (Eric) Fager, 's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands; seven great-grandchildren: Hazel and Edward Woznick, Easton Noworatzky, Grace and Griffin Brefczynski, and Allison and Natalie Fager.

Bill is also survived by four sisters: Lorena Boneham, Margaret Williams, and Marilyn Gould, all of Marinette, and Judy Wendel, Germantown, WI; as well as by two sisters-in-law: Frances Larson, Janesville, WI, and Ethel Larson, Florida; and by one brother-in-law, Jim Gould, Marinette. Other survivors include: special niece Barbara Boelter, Glendale, WI, other nieces and nephews, and other relatives.

Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by: his wife, Ann M. Larson; his mother- and father-in-law, Karl E. and Helen M. Zimmerman; one infant great-grandchild, Ayla Elizabeth Brauer; three sisters, Hilda E. Larson (who died as an infant), Eleanor Boelter, and Mae Freis; two brothers, Clarence and John Larson; one sister-in-law, Ruth H. Zimmerman; and three brothers-in-law: Ronald Boelter, Donald Boneham, and Jim Williams.

Cremation has taken place, and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Per Bill's wishes, there will be no memorial service, visitation, or funeral.
