Ellendale, N.D. - George S. Haussler, 81, of Ellendale, N.D., son of Herman and Alma (Hermann) Haussler was born Feb. 25, 1924, in rural Forbes, N.D. He was baptized at Forbes Lutheran Church and was confirmed in German at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monango. George graduated from Monango in 1942 and worked as a rural mail carrier. George entered the Army on March 23, 1946. He was honorably discharged Sept. 10, 1947 and attended the State Normal Industrial College in Ellendale, N.D., graduating in 1951. George married Betty Jane Schnoor on July 2, 1951 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, S.D. He taught school and coached in Lidgerwood and New Rockford, N.D. After the death of his father in 1958, George returned to the family farm. He taught and coached at Monango for seven years. In 1987 he moved to Ellendale. George served on the Monango Elevator Board, Farmers Union Oil Board, Dickey County Selective Service, Monango School Board, and St. Paul's Lutheran Church Board. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #137 and VFW. On March 7, 2003, George entered the Prince of Peace Care Center where he resided until his death July 3, 2005. Grateful to have shared in his life are wife, Betty Haussler, Ellendale, N.D.; five sons: Chuck (JoAnn) Haussler, Jennifer and Jeff, Fridley, Minn.; Jim (Julie) Haussler, Jeremy, Jonathan, James, Tessa and Cara, Bismarck, N.D.; David Haussler, Andrew, Coal Valley, Ill.; William Haussler, Anaconda, Mont.; and Gerald (Janie) Haussler, Fargo, N.D.; brothers, Louis (Corrine) Haussler, Gwinner, N.D. and Donald (Gayle) Haussler, Oakes, N.D.; sisters: Ella Rempfer, Gwinner, N.D.; Norma (Glenn) Hinger, Jamestown, N.D.; and Betty (DeLane) Bollinger of Monango, N.D. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Jake Rempfer. The funeral is 10:30 Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale, with Pastor Dennis B. O'Neill officiating. Visitation is 2-8 Tuesday with a prayer service at 7 at Hoven Funeral Chapel. Burial is at the Ellendale City Cemetery. Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to Alzheimers or Parkinson's research.
