Josiah Lakin died April 16, 1883

A Horrible Death
Josiah Lakin, a well known farmer living about six miles northeast of Uniontown, was killed yesterday on his farm by a team hitched to a cornstalk cutter running away and dashing over him. Mr. Larkin was out in the field cutting cornstalks with an old-fashioned cutter which fastens under the front wheels of the wagon. In some mysterious way the team became frightened and started on a run. Lakin was caught in the cutter and dragged something like a half a mile when a neighbor saw him, and stopping the team, pulled hi out of the cutter, but not until fatal injuries had been sustained. One arm was cut completely off and was found several hundred yards from where the team was stopped. A doctor was immediately summoned from Uniontown, but before he arrived Mr. Lakin was dead. The deceased was a well-known and highly esteemed citizen and his death has cast a gloom over the community. He leaves a wife and two children. (typed as printed)

He is buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Bourbon County, Kansas. That is where his parents are buried.
