He was born Oct. 14, 1941, to William Bird and Martha (Nauert) Bird in Shelbyville. He married Marsha L. (Dutton) Bird on April 10, 1941, and she survives.
Other survivors include two daughters: Sandy Bridges and husband, Mike, of Nineveh; and Joanna Claridge and husband, Carl, of Shelbyville; two brothers, Dann Bird of Shelbyville and David Bird of New Castle, Delaware; grandchildren, Michael and Benjamin Schafer, Erica Younkvich and Margaret Bridges; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Bird attended St. Joseph Catholic School. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1960.
He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church as a child and young man. Later in life, he attended and became trustee at Brookfield Baptist Church.
Steve was a jack-of-all-trades. He loved driving “big rigs.” He served in a management capacity at U-Haul, Central Restaurant and Supply and Warehouse, and Horner Electric.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at the funeral home, with the Revs. David Barrett and Don Buck officiating.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Shelbyville.
Memorial contributions may be given to the donor's favorite charity.
