∼Kathleen Theresa Croke, daughter of Richard and Theresa Gaffney Croke, was born 12 May, 1906, in Dalton, Massachusetts. She was the fourth of four children. Her older sister and dearest friend, Mary, was born in 1898. The first child in her family died as an infant, and her only brother, Lawrence, was killed in an accident when he was nine years old. She met her future husband,Stephen Mokowich, when he came to retrieve a baseball that flew into her front yard. He was on a baseball team in Dalton. They married in
Pittsfield, Massachusetts on 23 April, 1932. They moved to Amsterdam,then to Tribes Hill, New York, and raised two daughters. Their first child was Jo Anne, and their second child was Sonia.After Stephen moved out of the home to start a family with another woman, Kathleen supported her family as a secretary. She was very active in the Catholic Church. She died in Amsterdam, New York, 30 September, 1967. She was sixty one years old.
