"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal
love leaves a memory no one can steal."
~ From a gravestone in Ireland

A man-about-town and Alameda longtime resident, Sweeney (as we called him) was the perfect gentleman. He had a big smile for everyone and cheered us all up with his contagious laughter.

I met Sweeney at The Front Room in Alameda California when I was pregnant with my first born. Needless to say, we became friends for decades. He would often pay for my dinner out--even when I was dining with someone else.

He invited me to dinner for my birthday but we never got to dine together. One dark October night in Alameda, Neil was jumped and murdered on the sidewalk by four gang members as they were robbing him in front of his house.

We never will forget him and miss him everyday.

"May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand."
-Irish blessing
