"aged 65y 5m 4d". Son of George Waggoner (1794-1875) and Bethena/Bethany Haney (1803-1854). Wife: Mary J. Armantrout (1828-1903).
Robert was the second child of George and Bethany Waggoner. He was five when he left North Carolina with his parents and Grandfather Isaac and family and other family members and friends in a party of 21 to make the one year trip to Moultrie County, Illinois .
From 1842 to 1849 he worked in the lead mines at Galena, Illinois going in the spring and fall to work. During the summers he hauled lead from Galena to Chicago. Soon after marriage in June 15, 1851, he settled in Section 15 in the area that was an extension of Western Avenue in Mattoon, Illinois ,running ten miles west to Moultrie County. He died in December 21, 1888 of pneumonia. It is written that he was probably the most able financier of the Waggoner family as he was able to accumulate a great deal of land - about 580 acres at his death. He was well known for his stock of registered Poland-China hogs.
