Wilbur E Allen age 84 of Grinnell, Iowa passed away Friday at the Mayflower Health Care Center in Grinnell, Iowa. Interment in the Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell, Iowa.

Wilbur Eugene Allen was born on the family farm just north of New Sharon, Iowa to Afton and Veda Gleason Allen. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Searsboro High School with the Class of 1947. In January of 1952, Wilbur entered the US Army.

He was married to Myrna Graham on August 5, 1952 in Brownsmill, NJ after completing basic training. During the Korean Conflict, he was stationed in Italy until he was honorably discharged in December of 1953.

In March of 1954, he and Myrna began a career of farming and they became the parents of three sons, Rodney, Michael and Douglas.

Farming was a way of life for Wilbur. He enjoyed planting and watching the crops grow all summer. He loved to see the spring animals, especially the little calves in the pastures. He took great pride in the appearance of his farm and he possessed a strong work ethic and passed that ethic to his sons. Each was taught to drive a tractor at a young age, and they all knew that the straw needed to be bailed before going to the 4-H Fair each summer. Wilbur loved harvest as much as planting, and won several awards for outstanding corn and bean yields. During harvest, there was often a grandchild sitting beside him in the combine. Wilbur also enjoyed listening to blue grass music, wintering in Texas and traveling with Myrna to various destinations.

Wilbur was a faithful member of the Grinnell Elks Lodge. He enjoyed a good poker hand and spent many hours playing cards with friends at "The Office." He was also a member of the Farm Bureau.
