Odie Lee Heath was the son of Walter Lee Heath b. 24 Sept 1868 and his wife Frances Caroline 'Fannie' Price. Odie never married but was a very early fireman in Mineral Wells, TX. One of the first four 'paid' firemen for Mineral Wells. They were called the 'Firehouse orphans' because they took turns spending the nights at the fire station. Odie Heath spent 33 yrs and 3 mos with the Mineral Wells Fire Department.

Odie served as a Sergeant with the Fourth Texas Infantry in 1916, a member of Company I and served guarding the borders until 1917 when his company went to Fort Worth, TX and into the 144th Infantry, 36th Division (WWI), and in 1918 went overseas with the division to France. He fought through the Meuse-Argonne Offensive and was in the Argonne when the Armistice was signed Nov 11, 1918.
He returned from France in 1919 and on June 1, 1922 accepted a position as driver of one of the Fire Department's fire engines.
