Born in Elwood, New Jersey. Marjorie attended Hammonton High School, New Jersey. She moved to Egg Harbor City with her brother Jack, after her father died.

She was the daughter of Alice French Brooks, DOB: 6/23/1879, Honesdale, Pennsylvania, (buried in Egg Harbor City, Atlantic County, NJ) and Frederick B. Brooks, DOB: 2/12/1874, Barnsely, England, (buried in the Elwood Cemetery, Atlantic County, NJ), who came to the USA in November 1887 with his mother and brother, Albert Hector, DOB: 10/1/1877, Barnsley, England - DOD: 1/25/1952, Chula Vista, San Diego, CA. Albert married Ora Gordon Brooks on 12/24/1900, San Diego, CA.

Maternal:

Marjorie was the granddaughter of David French and Jane Taylor, Honesdale, PA who came to the USA in 1873.

Paternal:

She was the granddaughter of William Henry Brooks and Mary Ann Wainwright. The niece of Willaim James Wainwright, brother of Mary Ann Wainwright Brooks.

The great-granddaughter of William Brooks and Maria Davis, England, and also, William Wainwright and Hanna Clough, England.

The great great-granddaughter of James and Ann Clough, and also, Willaim Brooks, all from England.

Adelaide Brooks Milne, DOB: August 14, 1909 - DOD: May 16, 1991, married to Lewis Haws Milne. They had two sons: Lewis Brooks Milne, DOB: 7/2, married to Gail Edelbach, daughter Bonnie Louise, DOB: 11/16, and son, Eric (Rici) Lewis Milne DOB: 1/23; and Donald Milne, DOB: 4/13; married Marjorie Day Milne, son David Milne, 4/14; and Allison, 3/28.

Jack Clough Brooks, DOB: October 5, 1911 and DOD: December 8, 1994, married to Myrtle McAnny, adopted daughter, Karla Sue Brooks Graybell, DOB: 7/1, married to Timothy Graybell, daughters: Julie DOB: 10/18 and, Becky DOB: 3/1, and son Justin, DOB: 8/28.

Marjorie married George Ernest Gries DOB: 9/24/1917, on June 9, 1940, at Zion Lutheran Church, Egg Harbor City, New Jersey. They were married by the Rev. Frederick Goos. Their marriage was witnessed by Myrtle Brooks and Henry Gries. Other members of the wedding party were Ruth Gries, Aina Nassokin, Elmer Kienzle and John L. Joseph.

Both Marjorie and her husband, George owned and published the local newspaper, "The News", Egg Harbor City, NJ, along with a print shop. The business and their home were located at 127-129 Cincinnati Avenue, Egg Harbor City, NJ.

They had one child, Marjorie "Margie" Alice Gries (Roesler 1st) Garwood (2nd), married to (Stephen H. Roesler 1st), on May 25, 1975, Zion Lutheran Church, Egg Harbor City, New Jersey and they had one adopted daughter, Christin Faith Roesler, DOB: 7/11, born in Pusan, Korea. She then married Frederick R. Garwood (2nd), 7/8/1989, Zion Lutheran Church, Egg Harbor City, New Jersey and she had one step-son, Michael Garwood, 8/25.

Marjorie J. was a member of the Egg Harbor City Woman's Club, Dewey Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #155, the Grange, Egg Harbor City Order of Pocahontas, Egg Harbor City Chapter of Deborah, a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Home Auxiliary. Also, when she was young, she was a member of the Camp Fire Girls.

Marjorie loved to bake pastry as cakes, pies and cookies. She also enjoyed her handy work, such as, sewing, needle work, crafts and crotchet. She enjoyed gardening.

Marjorie enjoyed the simple things in life!

Her viewing was held at the Atwood-Peterson Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran Church, Egg Harbor City.

My mother was a sweet loving woman, devoted to her husband and me, her daughter. She was noted for her special cakes and tried to teach me and to this day, I cannot copy that cake. Both parents gave me an exceptional, wonderful childhood.
