Thomas was the son of Thomas Thorp 1711-1768 and Sarah Triplett 1730-1774. His siblings included the following:

On 14 Apr 1773 he married Elizabeth Holladay 1755-1785, daughter of William Holladay and Judith "Juday" in VA and they had 4 children---
1. Jeremiah 1773-1843
2. Zachariah 1778-1845
3. Susanna "Parkey" or "Sukey" 1782-1873
4. Josiah 1782-aft 1850

On 21 Apr 1779 he signed the Declaration of Albemarle in Albemarle, VA

On 14 Apr 1791 he married Eleanor/Helena Jackson 1761-1843, daughter of Jarvis Jackson and Mary Lee and they had the following 7 children:
1. Frances Dorcas 1792-1860
2. Jemima 1793-1873
3. Elenor/Eleanor "Nellie" 1794-1845
4. Lucinda "Lucy" 1798-1863
5. Thomas J. 1798-1863

By 1784 he moved to Madison Co, KY and bought land on the waters of Otter Creek, KY from Roger and Mary Moore. In 1803 Elijah and Patsy Bennett sold land to him on Muddy Creek, KY and on May 18, 1812 Thomas bought 100 acres on Muddy Creek from John Moore, Sr.

In 1818 he wrote his will, which was recorded The clerk's copy was recorded 6 July 1818; Will Book B, p. 447-448, Richmond, Madison Co, KY.

He died on 6 Jul 1818 in Madison Co, KY and was buried in the family plot, Muddy Creek, Madison Co, KY. It was taken over by the Bluegrass Arsenal. Please see grave #81247895 for a description of the grave site.
