Adolph John Gries, son of M. Emilie Joseph and Henry Jacob Gries.

Nicknamed by his Uncle George Joseph as "Addie."

He was the grandson Heinrick Gries and Louise Ripple (Rippel).

Henry was the great-grandson of Ernest Gries and Clara Kutscher of Germany and also, Peter Rippel and Carolina Heys.

Also, grandson of Caroline Catharine Dietrich and John Christian Joesph and great-grandson of Conrad Dietrich and Mary Yager or Maria Jaeger and John Joseph and Katherine Hoffman.

He was Baptised and Confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Egg Harbor City, New Jersey.

Adolph had two brothers, George Ernest (buried Egg Harbor City) and Henry William (buried Holy Cross, Mays Landing, Atlantic County, NJ).

He also had two sisters, Marion Caroline Kern (buried Egg Harbor City, Atlantic County, NJ) and Ruth Mathilda (Tanner 1st) Kienzle (2nd) (bureied Germania Cemetery, Galloway Twp, Atlantic County, NJ).

Adolph married Dorothy Lillian Bozarth at Zion Lutheran Church, Egg Harbor City, by Rev. Philip J. Hoh, on April 9, 1933. The marriage was witnessed by: Marion C. Gries Kern and Dorothy's brother, Kenneth Bozarth.

Dorothy was the daughter of Raymond and Lillian Bozarth.

Adolph and Dorothy had one daughter, Carole Ann, born on June 23, 1934, at George Joseph's farm in Cologne, Galloway Townhip, NJ.

Carole Ann was Baptised at Zion Lutheran Church, Egg Harbor City, NJ. Her Godparents were: Anna Joseph, Caroline Joseph and George E. Gries.

Adolph, Dorothy, and Carole Ann live in the Gries homestead at 426 Buffalo Avenue, Egg Harbor City, NJ.

Carole Ann married Elmer "Woozie" Joseph Weber, DOB: 5/5, on 11/3/1952 and they lived on Norfolk Avenue, Egg Harbor City, NJ. Their last address was Edgewater Park, Burlington County, NJ.

They had three children: Larry Allen, DOB: 5/17, Shore Memorial Hospital, Somers Point, NJ; Susan, DOB: 1/1, Mt. Holy, Burlington County, and Robert "Bobby," DOB: 1/5, Military Base, Cirencester, Gloucester, England.

Both Carole and Woozie are buried in Burlington County. Only their one son, Robert married and he lives with his wife and brother, Larry in Florida.

Adolph, for 50 years was a printer and linotype operator. He worked for the Atlantic City Press and eventually worked for his brother, George who owned and published "The News," Egg Harbor City, a weekly newspaper.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Egg Harbor City and the Redman Kickapoo Tribe. He played Tenor-Alto Sax and played in the Egg Harbor City Band.

I remember my uncle as a very serious type man and dedicated to his work.
