Ruby Stalnaker
Death rode the highways in Jackson County on Christmas Eve and when the death and injured were counted, police reported two persons had lost their live and several others had been injured and the highway fatality record for the county had reached a new high mark in the 3 year. One of the fatalities was Ruby Stalnaker, of Sandyville, who died of a broken neck as she was admitted to the Kessel Hospital in Ripley. She was fatally injured when the Ford pick up truck which she was riding wrecked near the home of E.T. Hardesty above Odaville. Mr. Hardesty and L.P. Hardesty rushed to the scene and dragged the victim from the wreckage and rushed them to a hospital. Miss Stalnaker's brother, Hrley, and his wife, Inez, who were also riding in the truck each sustained broken knees and other injuries. Mrs. Stalnaker in addition to the broken knee had a broken collar bone and all the ribs on the left side were broken. Mr. Stalnaker in addition to the broken knee had severe lacerations. Marshall, 23 yeas old, of Charleston was killed at the food of Divide Hill, near Kenna when the Dodge coupe in which he was riding crashed through the guardrails and rolled down an embankment about 100 feet and came to a stop in a hollow. He died in an ambulance while he was being brought to a hospital. William Davis Matthew, colored, who was driving the car, was slightly injured and is being held by the police on a charge of drunken driving.
