Former Uehling Mayor Strand Dies at Age 90.

Funeral services for Ernest Carl Strand were held Tues., Sept. 29,
1992 at the First Congregational Church in Uehling.

He died September 26 at Oakland Heights Nursing Home at the age of
90 years. The Rev. Todd Karges officiated. Edna Bergquist was
organist.

Casket bearers were Lynn Murer, Kent Hoeneman, F. Edwin Olson, Lon
Strand, Larry Mueller and Mark Helser. Burial was in the Baptist
Cemetery near Uehling. Palmquist-Pelan Funeral Home was in charge
of arrangements.

Ernest Carl Strand was born to Swan and Emma (Magnuson) Strand,
September 5, 1902 on a farm southwest of Oakland, Nebr. In 1910,
he moved with his parents and two brothers, Barton and Lawrence, to
a farm 4 miles south of Uehling.

On January 21, 1925, he married Vivian Monson in the Methodist
Church in Lyons, Nebr. They lived on the Strand farm where they
raised two children, Melva and Loell.

Ernie joined the Congregational Church of Uehling on April 21, 1935.
He was a church trustee for 20 years.

Ernie and Vivi moved to Uehling in October 1954. He had a
plumbing-electrical business, helped his brother Barton with lime
hauling and did carpentry work, remodeling or building several
houses in Uehling.

Strand was the mayor of Uehling for a time, a director of the bank
and helped with the organization of the Uehling Auditorium. He
also stayed involved with the farming with his son.

Strand's wife, Vivi, died October 15, 1968. He married Gertrude
Monson on April 15, 1971 at McCook, Nebr. They made their home in
Uehling until February 1992, when they moved to a nursing home in
Fremont. In July, they moved to Oakland Heights.

Strand was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, wife
Vivi and a great-grandson. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude;
children Melva (Mrs. E. D.) Murer and Loell Strand; six
grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a stepson, Merlin Monson of
San Francisco, Calif.; 5 nieces and 1 nephew.

Memorials may be given to the Congregational Church in Uehling
