Eugenie “Nonie” J. Planchard was born on July 10, 1886, to Joseph and Flora Barbin Planchard, in Marksville, Louisiana.

She married Frederick “Fritz” Joseph Hofheinz on May 12, 1908, in Beaumont, Texas. They lived on Wall Street in Beaumont with Nonie’s sister Itha and her husband Walter Bell. Also living with them was her sister Louise. Fritz worked as a messenger for Wells Fargo & Company Express.

On April 10, 1912 they had a son, Roy Mark. In the mid 1920s, they moved to Houston. Nonie’s husband fractured his skull on August 11, 1928 and died 4 days later on August 15. His son Roy was just 16, and began working to support his mother. Nonie did alterations at a ladies shop and Roy worked as an advertiser at a radio station. Son Roy then became “boy mayor” in 1935 at the age of 23, acted as campaign manager for Lyndon B. Johnson, built a network of radio stations, and built the Astrodome, the world’s first domed stadium. In 2006, Nonie’s son Roy was inducted into the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame.

Nonie moved back to Beaumont where she lived until she died in 1945 of a cerebral hemorrhage in Houston.
