Elizabeth Ann Edwards, devoted wife, loving mother and dedicated educator, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the age of 88.

She was born on November 22, 1925 in Plainview, Texas to Jewell and Guy Allen. The family moved to Dallas where Ann graduated from North Dallas High School and attended the Hockaday School, a college preparatory school for girls.

She was an active member of Oak Lawn Methodist Church where she met and married her husband of 63 years, Sam Edwards. In 1949 they moved to Houston and Ann became actively involved in the Oak Forest community. She served as PTA president at Stevens Elementary for a number of years and taught in the St. Michael's pre-school program.
As her children grew, Ann decided to further her education and graduated from the University of Houston with a BS in Education. She was employed in HISD and taught at Wainwright and Harvard Elementaries. The last 20 years of her career, Ann served as the Coordinator of the Vanguard Program at Oak Forest Elementary. She retired in 1996 to enjoy travel, family and friends. She has remained active in PTA, Alpha Delta Kappa, Houston Area Retired Teachers, Texas Retired Teachers Association and Sierra Club.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Sam, her parents, and two brothers, J. Guy and Charles Allen. She is survived by daughters Kay Hurzeler and Karen Edwards; grandsons Lee Hurzeler and wife Jana, and Ross Lovelace; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their thanks to Geraldine McClosky, Gail McGinnis, Anna Ortiz, the staff at St. Luke's Hospital and at Houston Hospice for their care, love and support. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request that donations be made to Houston Children's Charity, 230 Wescott, Suite 202, Houston, Texas 77007.
