Warren Mack Allen, 78, of El Dorado, has gone to his maker on this date Friday, Jan. 23, 2009.

Mack was born in Ogden, Kan., on Feb. 15, 1930. He attended Ogden Elementary from 1935 through 1943. He then attended Manhattan High School from 1943 through 1947. Mack attended Kansas State University (majoring in architecture) from 1947 until 1951.

Mack served in the military (Korean Conflict) from 1951 until 1953 and then returned to Kansas State University to get his B.S. degree in architecture in 1955, there upon coming to work for John Prigmore that same year. Mack became an associate in the firm in 1959 and then a full partner in 1963, selling out his partnership in 1992.

Mack is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lorraine (Blumbaugh) Allen; two daughters, Mrs. Gail Jilg and her husband Curtis of El Dorado and Mrs. Kim Lawrence and her husband David of Wichita; three grandchildren, Kirk Jilg and his wife Cynthia of Humble, Texas, Eric Lawrence of Washington, Mo., and Kari Jilg of Denver, Colo.; three great-grandsons, Zach, Nathan and Tyler of Humble, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law. Mack was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Hope Lawrence, and a sister-in-law, Joyce Conard of Ogden.

Mack was still practicing architecture until his death (52+ years). He has been a 50-year Pin member of the Masons and a 55-year member with the American Legion and served on the Board of Directors of the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce. He also held memberships in the Elks, being named "Elk of the Year in 1964," the Jaycees and was named "Outstanding Jaycee member in 1956." Mack also served on many early boards and was a member of the Downtown Kiwanis for many years. Mack was a long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

In 1960, Mack and Harlan Remsberg (then executive secretary of the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce) had a steak feed for the League of Municipalities. They started with concrete blocks, steel rods and hail screen in back of the 4-H Building, forming the group known as the Red Devil Chefs.

Donations in memory of Mack can be made to the Masonic Children's Hospital in St. Louis and left with Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado, which is assisting the family with the arrangements.

A private service has been held for Mack. Condolences and the family can be sent to www.carlsoncolonial.com.
