He leaves to mourn six children, Cecelia A. Childress, Annie B. (Barry) Gray, Elder Joe H. (Susie) Adkins, Shirley B. (Johnny) Neal, Brenda I. (Harvey) Davis and Michael J. Hairston, all of Roanoke; seven sisters and brothers, Leonard (Jean) Adkins, Annie Toller, Mattie (June) Swanson, Dorothy Toller, Frank (Mable) Adkins, Lillie Stockton and Ineze (Elmo) Parchment; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 3, 1997, at 2 p.m. at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel, with the Rev. Lee Lewis officiating. Interment in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 2, 1997 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel.
