Sidney Roden Sr. of Newport died this morning in a local hospital at the age of 93. He was born April 6, 1881 in Monette, Missouri. He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church and a retired farmer.
He is survived by 2 sons, Lee Roden of Chico, CA, and Sidney Roden Jr. of Detroit, MI.; 5 daughters, Mrs. Ruby Lewis of Tuckerman, Mrs. Lena Coleman and Mrs. Wilma Woodruff, both of Route 2, Newport, Mrs. Mary Frances Williamson and Mrs. Beatrice Knopp, both of Newport; 16 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
Services will be held Wednesday, May 1, at 2:00 pm at Ballews Chapel Baptist Church with burial in Ballews Chapel Cemetery. Dillinger's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


According to Death Certificate, Sidney Roden Sr. is the son of Mack Roden and Nancy Ann Smith Roden. He married Maggie Gertrude Ruby on Dec 21, 1902. They had 10 children, 8 of which lived to adulthood.
