Mrs. Laconia Bone Gay, 93, of Lanett, AL died Tuesday, 17 Dec 2002 at Beverly Health Care in Lanett.
Funeral services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday, 20 Dec 2002 at Lanett First United Methodist Church with Dr. Brian Wyatt and Rev Donnie Erwin-Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Gay is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Born 27 Nov 1909 in Lowndesville, SC, Mrs. Gay was a graduate of Huntingdon College. She was a teacher at Lanett High School where she taught English, math and science. She had also worked at West Point Pepperell's Lanett Mill office. She was a charter member of the Lanett Progress Club.
Mrs. Gay was a very active member of Lanett First United Methodist Church, where she had been a member for 80 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, she had been elected as Woman of the Year for the United Methodist Women, she taught Sunday school for 53 years, had a Sunday school class named in her honor, had served as secretary of the Official Board and had served as a member of the Official Board.
Mrs. Gay was preceded in death by her husband, Harmon "Happy" Gay. She was the daughter of the late Mary Catherine Manning "Mamie" Bone and William Ralph Lackey Bone.
The family respectfully declines the gift of flowers and asks that memorials be made to Lanett First United Methodist Church Meals on Wheels in her memory.
The family will receive friends Friday, 20 Dec 2002 from 3 to 4 p.m. at Lanett First United Methodist Church.
