Son of Anthony S Abbay and Susan Louisa Compton.

F W Abbay married Christianna E Demonbreun (daughter of William Rains Demonbreun) on 11 Jul 1860, in Hamilton County, Tennessee. They were parents of one child, Felix W Abbay.

According to his Civil War military records, F W "Abby" was commissioned a lieutenant in Co B, 10th Tennessee Infantry, on 19 May 1861.

Miscellaneous files found in National Archives Publication Unfiled Papers and Slips Belonging in Confederate Compiled Service Records, Publication M347 dated 1962 (published on Fold3.com in 2010) contain receipts signed by Capt. F W Abbay in 1861 for which cash had not been delivered as of 1862.

Referenced in both statements by others is the evacuation of Nashville, which occurred on 25 Feb 1862, after the loss of Ft Donelson. The evacuation was cited as possible reason for loss of cash and records, but no mention by them of Capt. Abbay's well-being.

Also in the same publication is a record for "Felix Abbey, Asst. Commissary General", referencing an undated list of appointments by TN Governor Isham Harris to the Provisional Army of Tennessee. Under remarks, "Hinman's Reg't, recently resigned." No other records found to indicate Abbay's ill health.

His widow and son were enumerated in the Nashville household of Anthony S Abbay in the 1870 US Federal census.
