The 1868 History of DeKalb Co., Illinois by H. L. Boise indicates that Barnes died at Jefferson City, MO.

The Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) post #395 was organized at Kingston, IL in 1884 and was named for Lt. Barnes.
