"Robert Samuel Taylor (Water tender 2nd class) was killed in action just east of Okinawa, Japan, on July 30, 1945. A kamikaze attack at about 3:30 am was his doom along with 21 shipmates, aboard the USS Cassin Young (DD793) destroyer. He was the son of John Leo and Aphus Taylor who lived in Laclede, MO. The ship now is a floating museum at the Charlestown Navy Yard (part of Boston National Historical Park) across the Charles River from downtown Boston, MA. There is a plaque on the ship commemorating those lost in battle, including Robert. The Cassin Young was the last destoyer hit by a kamikaze in the Pacific war. Park Rangers provide tours of the ship in season."
