Floyd A. Baker Floyd A. "Short" Baker, 80, of Amberson, PA, passed away Tuesday morning, September 9, 2014, at Providence Place in Chambersburg, where he resided for the past two years. Born April 3, 1934, in Spring Run, he was a son of the late George B. and Verda M. Piper Baker. Following his father's passing, he was raised by the late J. Floyd, Clara, and Alma Lytle. Mr. Baker was a graduate of the former Metal Township High School and received a Bachelor's Degree from Shippensburg State Teacher's College. He taught History in the Southern Huntingdon County School District for 38 years. Following his retirement from teaching, he was employed at Orrstown Bank. Mr. Baker served as Justice of the Peace in the early 1960s and throughout his life worked during the summer months at the Exxon Travel Plazas. He was a member of the Upper Path Valley Presbyterian Church and enjoyed hunting. His wife, Peggy J. Rotz Baker, whom he married June 30, 1955, preceded him in death on March 17, 2005. He is survived by four children, Joni Frey and husband Douglas of Amberson, Teresa Miller and husband James of Dry Run, Beth Shepherd and husband Neil of Arlington, VA, and James F. Baker and wife Susan of Yorktown, VA; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Frey, Heather Baker, and Tyler Baker; and a brother, George B. Baker and wife Elsie of Willow Hill, PA. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty J. Hill and Mary C. Baker. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 12, 2014 at Agett-Geisel Funeral Home, 18875 Main St., Dry Run, PA, with the Rev. Dr. Meagan Boozer officiating. Interment will follow at Amberson Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM Friday at the funeral home.
