Bertha R. (Webb) Ridenour, 79, of Monroe, died Sunday, June 30, 2002 at her residence. Bertha was born on November 23, 1922 to the late Ralph & Rosalie (Heebner) Webb of Waterbury, CT. She was a graduate of Crosby High School in Waterbury and also a graduate of Miami University in Oxford with a degree in music education in 1944.
She taught in Greene County for two years, then in Butler County at the Liberty Township Elementary for 5 1/2 years. She stayed out of teaching for 10 years while raising her family. In 1963, she returned to teaching in the Lakota School District from where she retired in 1984. Her teaching in the public schools totaled 32 years.
Bertha was a member of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church (currently Monroe Presbyterian Church) where she became choir director, leading both the adult and junior choirs, serving for 30 years. She also served the church as an elder . She gave private piano and vocal lessons in her home. In later years she was a volunteer musician at the Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village where she served as director of the "Village Singers" and pianist for the weekly Wednesday worship service.
Bertha was a member of the Delta Omicron Sorority, a Phi Delta Kappa, a member of International Honorary for teachers and Middletown Music Club. She was a life member of Butler County Retired Teachers.
Bertha leaves her husband of 54 years, Dale G. Ridenour; son Neil (Elda) Ridenour; daughter, Donna Jean (Dallas) Packer; brother Edmund (Maureen) Webb; grandchildren, Danny Packer, Kevin, Curtis, and Rachel Ridenour; one nephew; two nieces; and several cousins.
Reverend Samuel Gibb will officiate the Memorial Service.
Memorial donations may be made to the Monroe Presbyterian Church, 57 W. Elm, Monroe, OH 45050.
