The long goodbye came peacefully for Dixie Daines Freeman on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, surrounded by family and friends, her sweet spirit took flight.

She was born in Logan to James Norman Daines and Roma Hurren. She was the eldest of eight children. Dixie graduated from Logan High School.

She married the love of her life, Larry Freeman, on July 17, 1964, in the Logan LDS Temple. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He was her high school sweetheart, a devoted husband, and eventually became her loving caregiver. Friends forever, actually being baptized together at age eight.

Thirty nine years ago they built their home in South Weber, where they raised their family. They were blessed with two children: a son, Derek (Amanda) and a daughter, Jody Lynn Garrett; five grandchildren: Kaylee, Justace, Jaden, Averie, Joelle; one great-grandson, Aiden Kay and an honorary granddaughter, Emily. Spending time with family was her greatest joy in life.

She worked at Utah State (Go Aggies) but made her career with the government. She worked at the Forest Service, IRS, and eventually retired from HAFB after 36 years of service. Dixie had numerous talents.

She was a wonderful seamstress. She always looked forward to making special Halloween costumes for the kids each year. She could never waste a minute, so full of energy, she learned to crochet so she could make blankets and bibs while sitting or watching TV. Gardening with a green thumb, she loved having a beautiful yard.

She was an excellent cook, always trying out new recipes on her family. Talk about a sports nut - soccer, bowling, and an avid golfer, winning many awards and prizes. When in her home watching the Aggies play, you were required to wear team colors. She could yell louder than Coach Sloan when watching the Jazz or Derek play basketball (Mom was his biggest fan).

She was a world-class shopper, continually decorating and redecorating her home. The "Queen of Denim" - her motto was "it goes with everything, lasts forever, and never goes out of style." Since she never used her clothes dryer and ironed everything, they did last forever.

Dixie enjoyed life and wanted to experience as many adventures as possible. Traveling and thrifting with best friends Randi and Melva became a favorite pastime.

Dixie is survived by immediate family and her siblings Donna, Scott, Clair, Debbie and Deon. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Denise and Dot.

Special thanks to Dr. Yates and staff, Abby, Amy, Camille, Chelsea, Christy, JoMarie, Brandi and those who helped Dixie along the way. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lewy Bodies Dementia Association.

A viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 S. 1900 West, Roy.

Cremation under the direction of Myers Roy Mortuary.
