Knight of Pirgo. 4th son of Thomas, 2nd Marquess of Dorset. On the death of his brother Thomas in 1555 became the head of his family and was quickly a favorite at court. In 1557 he presented New Year's gifts to Queen Mary, and in 1562 in Queen Elizabeth. He was afterwards kept in confinement, under suspicion of encouraging John Hales in the publication of De Jure familiæ Ducis Suffolciæ ad successionem regni post mortem Elizabethæ.
