Marie L. Schnell, 89, of Kiel, died Friday afternoon September 12, 2014 at Field of Dreams Assisted Living. She is the former Marie Krueger, born February 2, 1925 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Paul & Esther (Free) Krueger. Marie was a 1943 graduate of Kiel High School. In her early days, Marie had worked for several businesses throughout the area. On June 20, 1953 she was united in marriage to Kenneth M. Schnell in Chilton. After her marriage, Marie took great pride in raising her family and being a homemaker. Marie and Ken spent 47 years together until he preceded her in death on September 11, 1999. She kept busy in her retirement and was very involved at the Kiel Senior Center. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel, where she served as Sunday School Teacher, was in the choir and Ladies Aid. She enjoyed the many friendships she developed at the Kiel Senior Center and especially loved a good game of Crazy Rummy. Marie also enjoyed doing word search puzzles. Survivors include her two daughters; Paula (Ken) Gilsdorf, Lori (Jeff) Gierke, her grandchildren; Kimberly (Adam) Karls, Jessica Gierke, Greg (Bethany) Gierke, her great-grandchildren; Violet & Joslyn Karls, further survived by sisters-in-law; Elaine (Robert) Kramer, Evelyn Schnell, Helen Kaderabek, Bernice Zielke, Grace (Edward) Mikalofsky, Gladys Paulson, Louise Thiel & Patricia Schnell, brothers-in-law; James (Margie) Schnell & Walter Dudarenke along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter; Beverly and a brother; August Krueger. Funeral services will be held at 11:00a.m. on Tuesday September 16, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 387 Cemetery Rd. Kiel, with Rev. David Laabs officiating. Burial will be held at the Kiel City Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Monday September 15, 2014 from 4:00p.m. until 7:00p.m.at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 6th St Kiel and at the Church on Tuesday from 9:00a.m. until the time of services. A memorial has been established in her name. Marie's family would like to express their sincere thanks to all the friends at helpers at the Senior Center and Senior Transportation who helped in so many ways. They would also like to thank the staff and nurses at Field of Dreams and Heartland Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Marie.
