She was the mother of Barbara Bel Geddes. She married Norman Melancton "Big Norm" Geddes in 1916. They coined Bel-Geddes as the title for a magazine they were planning. Norman took the name without a hyphen as his name. The couple divorced when their daughter Barbara was 3 and their other daughter, Joan, was 9. Helen died in Maplewood, Essex County, New Jersey on May 28, 1938 & was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio in her family plot. Her first daughter, Joan Bel Ulanov, was born on December 2, 1916 & passed away on September 4, 2001. Her second daughter, Barbara Bel Geddes, was born on October 31, 1922 & passed away August 8, 2005.
