Paul gave this photo to me. It is a classic example of law enforcement uniforms worn in the 1930s.

Note the cross-draw holster, Sam Browne belt and leather leggings.

There is a round, Red Cross patch on his left cuff denoting that he was specially trained in 1st aid.

That was important, considering it was another 30 years before the 9-1-1 system.

Paul, was over 6 feet tall. His stature was more than enough to get compliance back in those days.

Deputy Sheriff Paul Bell in Seattle near the Pike Street Market. Check out the Jodphur pants and leather leggings.

Paul allowed me to donate his Sam Browne belt, holster, chest badge and cap badge to the Seattle Metropolitan Police Museum.

I knew Paul Bell and sat in when he was interviewed by the Issaquah Press in around 2003. The paper ran a full page story on his life, but I'm unable to find the on-line version in their archives.

Paul gave me a copy of this photo and many others. They were posted on the Issaquah Police Department website, History section, but alas the site has been redesigned and the history seems not worthy to have been included.

Paul was a wonderful man, full of humor and a life-time of stories.He was a tall gentleman, as you see, he towers over the top of his police car.

Paul said that this was his personal car and the department provided the red light and siren. This was during the depression and money was tight.

I worked as a civilian employee for the Issaquah Police Department in the 9-1-1 Communications Center. Paul would call in occasionally, on the non-emergency line, just to chat.

He was a fine man, worthy of being called a Gentle Man.

Paul gave me this photo. He is in he Second row, sixth in from the left.

He said it was the Uniformed Division of the King County (WA) Sheriff's Department, taken in 1938.
