Miss Laura McNulta, was born October 19, 1887, in Bloomington, Illinois, the daughter of General John and Laura Pelton McNulta.
General McNulta who came to Bloomington, Illinois in 1857 as a "race horse rider" enlisted in the Union Army as a private in 1861 and moved sucessfully up the ranks to the position of brevet brigadier general. After the war he served a term as State Senator and was elected to the U. S. Congress in 1872.
Miss McNulta donated the Civil War relics and personal papers of her father to the McLean County Historical Society in 1957.
Surviving was a sister-in-law, Mrs. Herbert McNulta of Charleston, South Carolina.
