Age 90 and a lifetime resident of the Hungarian Settlement, John passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at his residence. He was the owner of Erdey’s Sandwich Shop in Albany for 28 years, as well as, a member of the Hungarian Presbyterian Church. John proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the American Legion and the Amvets-Erdey Kiss Post.
John leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Wilma “Bonnie” Erdey; children, Johnny Erdey, Jr., Linda Erdey, Bobbie Needham and husband W.C., Mike Erdey, Sr. and wife Carolyn, along with his grandchildren, Johnny Erdey III and wife Jenifer, Christopher Cooper and wife Joey, Bryan Needham and wife Constance, Michael Erdey, Jr., Jacob Erdey and Luke Allen Erdey; three great-grandchildren, Camdyn and Landon Cooper, Ellie Needham. He is also survived by his brother, Nick Erdey and wife Ethel, Mary Anderson, as well as, numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding John in death were his parents, Mike, Sr. and Barbara Erdey; brothers, Mike, Jr., Julius, Frank, Joe and Alex Erdey.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, west of Hammond, on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The visitation will resume on Thursday, December 13, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Joe Dunn will officiate the services and interment will follow in the Hungarian Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
