Elinor Ross Crawford, 97, died on Sunday, June 8, in Burlington, N.C. She was born in Baltimore, Md., on June 2, 1917, the daughter of the late Walter Aloysius and Lina Mae Baker Ross.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Crawford Jr. of Charlottesville, a daughter, Ruth Elizabeth Crawford of Reston, Va., and two sisters, Louise Ross of Baltimore, who died as a child, and Hilda Ross Connelly of Newport News, Va. She is survived by one son, Charles David Crawford (Jacquie) of Burlington, a daughter, Kathleen C. Hoffman (Jack) of Reva, Va., two granddaughters, Virginia Crawford of Burlington and Jennifer A. Hoffman of Culpeper, Va., a faithful son-in-law, Richard G. Harrison of Los Angeles, Calif., who was Ruth’s husband, and two step-grandchildren, Charles Harrison of Oakland, Calif., and Anna Summer Harrison Wallace of Austin, Texas.

Mrs. Crawford moved to Charlottesville with her family when she was three years old. Her father was co-owner of a Main Street drug store before the depression. She lived in or near the city almost all her life, but moved to North Carolina four years ago to be near her son. She was employed as a secretary by the Nuclear Engineering Department at the University of Virginia for many years, and in retirement worked part-time for the Crozet Bulletin, a weekly newspaper. While in Crozet she was very active with the Meadows community. She was a faithful parishioner at Holy Comforter Catholic Church for decades before moving to Crozet, when she began to attend services at St. Thomas Aquinas Church.

A funeral was held at noon on Friday, June 13, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church at 401 Alderman Road in Charlottesville. Burial followed at Monticello Memorial Park.
