Son of Nicholas Baylies. Graduated from Harvard. Married Hannah, daughter of Hon. William Bradford in Bristol, R.I. She died in 1811. He practiced medicine in Bristol and Newport, R.I. for many years. In 1805 he relocated to Newtown, Queens, N.Y. He also studied law and was admitted to the bar in Rhode Island. In the War of 1812, he returned to military service as an army surgeon. In 1815 he married his second wife, Catharine, daughter of Col. Barnardus Bloom. Dr. Baylies died March 5th 1834, from pneumonia typhoides, which he was exposed to through his practice.
