Doris A Koenig, 87 of Reedsburg, WI died January 6, 2023, at Sage Meadow Assisted Living in Middleton, where she resided for almost 8 years. She was born August 8, 1935, in the Township of Honey Creek, Sauk County, WI to Gustav and Eleonora (Schwanke) Slotty.

She was baptized, confirmed and married at St. John's Lutheran Church in Leland, WI. She attended Leland Grade School and was an honor graduate of Prairie du Sac High School, class of 1953. On September 8, 1956, she married Leonard Koenig and they settled on Sunrise Road in the Township of Westfield. Doris' first job was as a bookkeeper at The Reedsburg Bank 1953-1957 until she resigned to be a full-time homemaker and mother to Connie and three years later to Steven. Once Debbie and Danny, "the twins," started school she became a bus driver for the Reedsburg School District and drove for 23 years. Once retired from farming in 1989, Doris and Leonard moved to Reedsburg on Wellington Drive and enjoyed the neighborhood and making friends with the neighbors. Doris worked a few summers tending the grounds at Storybook Gardens and later worked at the Reedsburg Family Prescription Center delivering prescriptions. Her favorite jobs involved driving and she was so proud to say that she never had an accident.

Doris' hobbies included sewing, quilting, flower gardening, watching TV and movies, and using the computer for writing letters, organizing photo's, Facebooking, emailing, and bookkeeping. She and Leonard enjoyed playing cards with friends, Chinese checkers, solving the Jumble puzzle in the paper, and dining out. She loved making a house a home. Once she moved to assisted living, painting can also be added to her hobby list and many of her best paintings are displayed at the facility or posted on Facebook. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, and watching the grandchildren grow. She would say she liked to cook but not washing the dishes. She was an excellent baker, known for making Pfeffernüsse cookies for her father and brother, rosettes for her sister-in-law Diane and friends, and pies and cookies for Leonard and the kids. She believed in God and in Jesus Christ, our Savior.

Survivors include her children: Connie (Walter) Blahnik, West Bend; Steven Koenig (Patricia), LaValle; Debra (Daniel) McGowan, Waunakee; and Daniel Koenig, Reedsburg; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Lyda Dorow; nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leonard in 2011, her brother Harlen, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nephew Randall Slotty, nieces Lori Lee (Slotty) Arndt and Linda (Leege) Nachreiner.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 4 to 6:30 PM at Grasse Funeral & Cremation Service in Reedsburg. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, rural Rock Springs, where a graveside burial service will be held Friday, January 20 at 11AM. The family is grateful for the care she received while living at Sage Meadow Assisted Living. She said many times, "I have everything I need." Thanks also to the Agrace Hospice staff for providing expert comfort care during her final days.
