Louise C. Am End, the first American in her family, was born in Michigan just over a year after they emigrated from the Rhineland in Germany. When the Am Ends eventually settled in Sheboygan, WI, Louise found various employment: in enamel work at a foundry, as a bookkeeper, and as a laborer in a chair factory. Two of her brothers were butchers, and the other two were Lutheran ministers.

Tragedy struck the family early on with the deaths of three of the siblings in young adulthood. Apparently looking for a new start, Louise and her parents moved to Minnesota with brother Herman, one of the ministers, and his family. In Lowell, MN, Louise found work as a practical nurse at Sunneyrest Sanatorium. Later, she served devotedly as a housekeeper for the Kydd family in Minneapolis.

Louise was reportedly a kind woman with a sunny personality. She died at the age of 84 in Carver County, MN.
