Mary was born in Marlin, Texas, to the late Sam and Lennie Mae (Kelly) Johns. She was a lifelong resident of Marlin, a member of First United Methodist Church and a homemaker. During the World War II years, her husband was the newspaper distributor for all of Marlin and after he left for the war, Mary took over his job and delivered papers, first on a bicycle, then on a scooter. After her children became of age, they would ride the fenders of her Chevrolet and throw papers in the early morning hours all over town.
She was a member of the Marlin Garden Club, the Marlin Art League, the "42" Club, the Rummy Club and the Wesleyan Service Circle. Mary loved yard work and her garden, and her favorite piece of equipment was her riding lawnmower.
Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, John Adam, in 1970; her second husband, Wad Pickler, in 1975; a brother, J.C. Johns; and a sister, Odessa Braden.
Survivors include her son, John David Adam, of Marlin; daughter, Mary Lynn Powell, of Marlin; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
