In July 1882, his father took Oath of Allegiance, and Hardy volunteered for active duty. Hardy Richardson was only 14 years old when he in Washington's Rifles. His first cousin was also his first Lt., Martin G. Williams.
Hardy Richardson died in Bulloch County, Georgia. His widow, Frances Mizell Richardson moved to Washington Parish, Lousiana with son Stephen Richardson and daughters Nancy Richardson Albritton,and Elizabeth Richardson Thomas.
