Larry 'BeBe' Richard, Sr.

Larry "BeBe" Richard, Sr., age 80, of 2704 Washington Blvd., Two Rivers, died on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Hamilton Care Center, Two Rivers.

Affectionately known to many as "BeBe", he was born at home on July 25, 1930, to Wilhelmina (Gauthier) and Joseph Richard, the only boy surrounded by five adoring sisters.

He attended St. Luke's Catholic School and Two Rivers Washington High School, graduating in 1949, sharing his special gift of art with the yearbook and newspaper staff and proudly bragging that he started as the 140 pound center on the undefeated football team. After high school he joined the Salvatorian Order of Brothers in Saint Nazianz Abby and was known as "Brother Pierre". He spent four years in faith formation and shared his artistic gifts painting murals and gold leafing many of the mission properties and churches.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1955, where he trained at Fort Benj Harrionson, Ind., as a postal clerk and was subsequently assigned to Fort Lewis, Wash. He married Alice Andrews in 1956, and move to Alaska for his tour of duty at Fort Richardson. In Alaska, his two sons, Joseph and Larry Jr. were born. After completing his service the Richard's moved back to Two Rivers, settling in on the Eastside where the rest of there children Albert, JoAnna and Cindy were born.

BeBe worked as a painter/decorator for local construction companies, notably Kumbaleks and Kitzlers. In 1971, he joined the city of Two Rivers Water and Light Department as a plant operator and the AFSCME Union where he served as President of Local 76. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1957 of Two Rivers. Bebe loved his French heritage, family, art, friends, Catholic faith, the Democratic Party, his union and Two Rivers. He had the ability to converse with anyone he met.

No one was a stranger to BeBe; they were friends whose names he just didn't know yet. BeBe loved having his family around him and looked forward with great anticipation each year to the Richard Family Reunion. For the past 32 years the Richard's would gather the last weekend of July for three days of conversation, laughter, great food and plenty of card playing and most of all love. BeBe was always a central figure whether telling animated stories, roasting the corn or "Betting a buck". He was very giving of his time and talent to the community, teaching art to young students, coaching youth football, and as a Cub Scout Leader.

He is survived by (private).

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son: Joseph; sisters: Margaret (infant), and Frances; and special brother-in-law: Ivan Klein.

The family wishes to thank the nurses, technicians and staff of the Hamilton Memorial Home for their caring love and compassion. To them BeBe was both a patient and a friend. We wish to thank Dr. Barylak for his years of exceptional care which kept BeBe as comfortable as possible, giving us precious extra time with him.
