Grace was from Irvington, NJ and she was the daughter of Elizabeth Buhl and Stephen Johnson, Sr. Her family then moved to Cologne, Galloway Township, Atlantic County, NJ. She had four brothers, Stephen, Jr., Robert, Francis and Andrew Johnson.

She married Creston Armiger, in 1942 and they lived in Cologne, NJ. They had three daughters, Geraldine Armiger Herndon, married to James, children: Jennifer Benedict, and Johnathan. Susan Armiger-Grimm, and she had one child: Christina. Stephanie Armiger Holman, chidren: Alison, Nathan, Ryan and Hannah.

She was a member of the PTA, 4-H, St. Nicholas Church drum and bugle corps and the St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, Egg Harbor City, NJ. She was a member of the Amercian Legion.

Grace was a volunteer for the Amercian Cancer Association fund raising drives. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, the beach, bowling, golfing, roller skating, bridge, lunch with her friends and enjoyed dinner and dancing with her husband.
