Phalen Vig, 87, of Williston, passed away at his home on Saturday evening, January 11, 2014.

Phalen Jerome Vig was born on his family's farm in Bonetrail, North Dakota on October 17, 1926 to Jens and Sara (Modahl) Vig. He was raised and educated in Bonetrail.

On January 16, 1951, Phalen enlisted in the US Army. He served for two years and was honorably discharged at Camp Rucker, Alabama on December 17, 1952.

He was married to Phyllis Haugen of Alamo, ND and together they had four children. They later divorced.

On February 24, 1966, Phalen was united in marriage to Annice Knutson in Watford City, North Dakota. Together they had one son. They lived several years in Fort Morgan, CO, moving to Williston in 1981 where they have lived ever since.

Phalen worked as a farm hand but for most of his career he was a long haul truck driver. Most of his runs had to do with hauling something to or from oil rigs. A gifted mechanic, Phalen loved to tinker with machinery. He also enjoyed meeting his friends for coffee and going to Moose Lodge #239 where he was a lifetime member. He also belonged to the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion.

Surviving Phalen are his wife, Annice; daughter, Shelley (Bruce) Stockman of Williston; sons, Bruce (Penney) Vig of Williston, Barry (Pam) Vig of Northfield, MN, Randy Vig, and Jerome Vig both of Williston; grandchildren, Jacob, Derek, and Sable, Stockman, Jamie (Nicole) Oster, Alyson (Scott) Dickson, Todd (Alexandra) Rondestvedt, Paul (Jessica) Vig, Megan (Mandolyn) Barrymore, Kevin Vig, Krystal (Chris) Walther, Cody, Gene, Jamie, Jordan, and Chase Vig; great grandchildren, Cameron, Ayden, and Kinley Oster, Marissa Dickson, Shawn Rondestvedt, Madison and Lilly Walther; brothers, Virgil Vig of Whitter, CA and Jerry Vig of Grand Junction, CO; sister, Alteen Mortenson of WIlliston, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Phalen in death were his parents, Jens and Sara Vig; sisters, Shelene Herland, Eileen Opperud, Judy Young, and twins Carolyn & Marilyn and brothers, Larry, Milo and Dallas Vig.
