Died with former Navy star Quarterback and Academy graduate Alton L. Grizzard. Both murdered by former fiancee Ens. George Smith who then turned the gun on himself.

Ensign Kerryn L. O'Neill, 21, of Kingston, died Wednesday at the Naval Air Station in Coronado, Calif. Born Feb. 1, 1972, in Kingston, she was a daughter of Bonnie Brown O'Neill, of Kingston, and Edmund J. O'Neill, of Wilkes-Barre. She was a graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School and received a degree in oceanic engineering from the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md.
She was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy in May 1993, and was assigned to the Civil Engineer Corps in Coronado.
An avid runner, she won 12 varsity letters in high school and set three records at the Naval Academy. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Helen Palaski Brown. Surviving, in addition to her parents, are brother, Edmund III, Kingston Township; sister, Kristen Ann, Boston, Mass.; maternal grandfather, John Brown, Mesa, Ariz.; paternal grandparents, Edmund and Marion Schaefer O'Neill, Wilkes-Barre.
